§ Mr. AKERS-DOUGLASMay I ask the Prime Minister whether, for the conve- 698 nience of the House, he can state what business he proposes to take at the conclusion of the Debate on the Address, and what limit he proposes to put on the Debate on the Address; and further, may I ask whether he will pay some attention to the number of Amendments on the Paper, and also to the fact that private Members' time is to be taken up to Easter?
§ The PRIME MINISTERWe had hoped that the Debate on the Address would conclude to-morrow night, but I understand that representations have been made, through the usual channels, asking for extra time. I regret that I am not able to promise more than one extra day, and we shall ask the House to bring the Debate on the Address to a conclusion on Wednesday night. On Thursday I shall submit a Motion to take private Members' time. After that is passed, we shall take Supplementary Estimates, and the discussion of these will be continued on Friday. We propose to introduce the Parliament Bill on Monday next.
§ Lord HUGH CECILMay I ask the right hon. Gentleman whether he did not assure the House that there would be no attempt to curtail the Debate on the Address, and whether there are abundant precedents for the Debate extending over a fortnight?
§ The PRIME MINISTERIt has taken more than the average time.
§ Mr. RAMSAY MACDONALDIs the right hon. Gentleman in a position to tell us what Supplementary Estimates he proposes to take?
§ The PRIME MINISTERIt is usual to collect the opinions of hon. Members in different parts of the House before making any such announcement. My right hon. Friend is endeavouring to get information from the usual sources.
