HC Deb 09 February 1911 vol 21 c426
Mr. WILLIAM REDMOND

asked the Chief Secretary whether he has acquainted himself with the possible important industrial results of tobacco cultivation in Ireland; and whether he will draw the attention of the Development Commission to the desirability of encouraging by further financial assistance this means of promoting employment in Ireland?

Mr. BIRRELL

I had recently the pleasure of visiting Colonel Everard's tobacco farm, and was greatly impressed by it, as I also was with the agreeable smoking qualities of the production. The Department of Agriculture and Technical Instruction in Ireland has the matter under consideration.

Mr. WILLIAM REDMOND

After that answer I shall ask the right hon. Gentleman to accept a small present of this tobacco from me.
