Mr. HUGH BARRIE

asked the Chief Secretary whether he will state the number of students in Ireland attending the classes of the Technical Instruction Department during the session 1909–10; and will he state how many students were attending these classes in Belfast and Dublin respectively?

Mr. BIRRELL

Forty-two thousand nine hundred and nine students were enrolled in technical schools and classes conducted by technical instruction committees of local authorities in the session 1909–10; 5,781 students attended the classes of the Belfast County Borough Technical Instruction Committee, and 1,967 those of the Dublin County Borough Technical Instruction Committee.

Mr. HUGH BARRIE

asked whether the Department of Agriculture and Technical Instruction for Ireland have now submitted to the Treasury their scheme for the allocation of the proposed building grant for technical schools; and with what result.

Mr. BIRRELL

The Department have recently been in communication with the Treasury on the subject and are awaiting their decision.
