§ Mr. F. WHYTEasked the Lord Advocate whether the minute of the committee of council on education in Scotland, dated 31sfc October, 1911, amending the 1017 Schedule to the minute of 30th January, 1905, providing for the establishment of committees for the training of teachers, can be interpreted as giving better provision than has hitherto obtained for the election of women to serve on such committees; and, if not, whether he will take into consideration the desirability of securing the election of an adequate number of women members of these committees, in view of the preponderance of women in the training colleges?
§ The LORD ADVOCATE (Mr. Ure)Under the minute referred to, the facilities for the election of women to the provincial committees remain as before; that is to say, the election depends upon the action of the various bodies—secondary education committees, and others—who are entitled to nominate persons to constitute the committee. It is not deemed expedient to make any alteration in the terms of the minute at the present time, as such alteration would have the effect of delaying the reconstitution of the committees already overdue; but the point raised by the hon. Member will be borne in mind as against the next occasion of constituting the committees.
