HC Deb 04 December 1911 vol 32 cc1014-5
Mr. G. TERRELL

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether his attention has been called to the amalgamation of the soap manufacturing businesses of Joseph Crosfield and Son, Limited, and W. Gossage and Son, Limited, with the firm of Brunner, Mond, and Company, Limited; and whether he will take steps to introduce legislation on the lines of the anti-trust laws of the United States of America for the purpose of regulating and controlling such trusts and combines in this country?

Mr. ROBERTSON

I have seen Press announcements to the effect stated in the first part of the question. I am not aware of any sufficient reason for action on my part.

Mr. G. TERRELL

Are we to understand that trusts, which have been denounced as a vice of Tariff Reform, are now to be considered a virtue under Free Trade?

Mr. KING

Is not the best way of keeping trusts out to keep Free Trade in?
