HC Deb 11 April 1911 vol 24 cc219-20
Colonel BURN

asked how many recruits presented themselves for enlistment in the Regular Army during the last official year; how many of these were rejected by the medical officers as being below the regulation standard; how many recruits joined the Territorial Army during the last official year; and how does this number compare with those who enlisted during the previous year?

Colonel SEELY

The hon. and gallant Member will find the detailed information he requires in the General Annual Report of the British Army, which was presented to Parliament (Cd. 5481), on page 45, as regards the Regular Army, and on page 121 as regards the Territorial Force. As regards the Regular Army, the numbers served with notice papers amounted to 63,751, and of these 13,735 were rejected for physical reasons by the medical officers; a further 16,921 were rejected for physical reasons by the recruiting authorities and 400 more by the approving officers. As regards the Territorial Force there were 42,239 recruits in the year ending 30th September, 1910, and 110,020 in the previous year.
