HC Deb 11 April 1911 vol 24 c213
Mr. GEORGE ROBERTS

asked the Under-Secretary for India how many local governments in India have issued orders on the lines of the recommendation made in the Report of Lord Curzon's Police Commission, and approved by the Government of India, that whenever a court of justice publicly, or by a separate vote, thinks fit to comment upon misconduct by the police engaged in the case under trial, an inquiry into the matter shall be conducted by an impartial and competent agency; and will he specify those orders in detail and state the dates upon which they were issued?

Mr. MONTAGU

I must refer my hon. Friend to the answer that I gave to this question when he asked it last Tuesday.

Mr. WEDGWOOD

Will, at any rate, steps be taken to prevent the promotion or decoration of these police officers pending the result of the inquiry?

Mr. MONTAGU

I am not quite sure that that arises directly out of the question on the paper. Perhaps my hon. Friend will put it down.
