HC Deb 10 April 1911 vol 24 c35
Mr. MacNEILL

asked the Prime Minister whether, having regard to Viscount Haldane's eminence as a lawyer and the fact of his having been for many years a leader at the bar, he will say if any means exist of making use of his services to assist the Lords of Appeal, although he has not held judicial office; and, if so, whether action will be taken in that direction?

The PRIME MINISTER

This matter is under consideration, and I have every reason to hope that a means will be found for taking advantage of the service which my Noble Friend is willing to offer in dealing with judicial matters.

Lord BALCARRES

May I ask if that will involve the resignation on the part of the learned and Noble Viscount of his post in the Government?

The PRIME MINISTER

No.

Mr. W. R. PEEL

Will the Noble Viscount be able to take part in Debates on controversial matters in the House of Lords?

The PRIME MINISTER

Yes.
