HC Deb 10 April 1911 vol 24 cc35-6
Captain CRAIG

asked the Prime Minister whether, in view of the action of the Corporation of Dublin in refusing to present a loyal address to the Crown on the occasion of the Royal visit to Dublin, he will advise His Majesty to hold the intended levies and court in the City of Belfast?

Mr. MacVEAGH

Before the right hon. Gentleman replies, may I ask whether he is aware that, before the marriage of the Queen of Spain, a clergyman, speaking in a Belfast Orange Hall, said if the marriage took place he would "make the Throne rock"?

Mr. SPEAKER

That has nothing to do with the question on the Paper.

Mr. MacVEAGH

It has to do with it in this respect, that the suggestion in the question is—

Mr. SPEAKER

The question of what some clergyman said before a marriage took place has nothing to do with the question on the Paper.

Mr. MacVEAGH

May I respectfully point out—

Mr. SPEAKER

The hon. Member may point out to me as long as he likes, but nothing he can say will convince me that his question has any relevance to the question on the Paper.

Mr. MacVEAGH

In view of the fact that this question suggests that exceptional loyalty is to be found in the City of Belfast, am I not entitled to ask whether a speech has been delivered there in which a clergyman threatens to make the Throne rock?

Mr. SPEAKER

That has nothing to do with the question on the Paper.

The PRIME MINISTER

The answer is in the negative.

Mr. MOORE

May I ask if he has taken into consideration the fact that hon. Members below the Gangway from Ireland in this House have not dared to repudiate the Resolution of the Corporation?
