HC Deb 06 April 1911 vol 23 c2416
Dr. ESMONDE

asked the Chief Secretary if the Royal Irish Constabulary are or have been acting as bailiffs in the eviction of town tenants; and, if so, will he give orders that they are not to be so employed?

Mr. BIRRELL

The Summary Jurisdiction (Ireland) Act, 1851, Section 15, Subsection 3, empowers magistrates to issue their warrants to the police in such cases. When this is done the police carry out the duty imposed on them.
