HC Deb 06 April 1911 vol 23 cc2411-2
Mr. HAYDEN

asked the Chief Secretary whether he is aware that the following persons, namely, Anne Ganly, Bridget Nilan, Mary Melvin, Margaret Melvin, Henry Mara, Margaret M'Dermottroe, and Honor Winston, all of whom are over seventy years of age, who are resident in the infirmary of Castlerea Workhouse and paying their full cost of maintenance, have been refused their applications for old age pensions; and whether he will state the grounds upon which this refusal was made?

Mr. BIRRELL

No appeals have been received in these cases, and the Local Government Board have no information regarding them.

Mr. REDDY

asked the Secretary to the Treasury why Michael Fahey, of Erry Armstrong, Clara, has been refused a pension; is he aware that this man's mother died as far back as 28th March, 1844; has he seen a death certificate by Father Michael Bracken to this effect, and that Michael Fahey was at the date referred to five years old; and will he have the whole circumstances of this case reviewed?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

I am informed that Michael Fahey has been granted a pension of 5s. a week as from the 24th of last month.
