HC Deb 05 April 1911 vol 23 c2200
Mr. KERR-SMILEY

asked what is the amount of the Imperial charges in the United Kingdom in the years 1886 and 1910; and whether it is the intention of the Government in the forthcoming Home Rule Bill to follow the proposal in Mr. Gladstone's Home Rule Bill of 1886, and levy one-seventeenth part of the Imperial charges in Ireland?

The PRIME MINISTER

There are difficulties in furnishing the figures for the year 1886. For the year 1884–5 the Imperial charges amounted to £63,753,000. The corresponding figure for the year 1909–10 is £90,646,000. It would obviously be premature to reply to the last part of the question.
