HC Deb 04 April 1911 vol 23 c2007
Mr. HUNT

asked the Postmaster-General whether ho is aware that the mails for Benbecula have to be carried by road for about twenty-five miles and also over one dangerous ford; and whether, in view of the fact that the mail steamers pass daily within about three miles of a pier at Petersport, in the island of Benbecula, especially constructed for landing the mails, he could see his way to having a harbour light put up at Peters-port and the mails delivered by the passing mail steamers?

The POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Mr. Herbert Samuel)

The facts are as stated. But there are serious objections to the proposed alternative, which I would ask leave to explain to the hon. Member in detail by letter.

Mr. HUNT

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that these steamers do call once a week, in the summer time at all events?

Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL

I must ask the hon. Member to give notice of the question.
