HC Deb 21 May 1910 vol 116 cc389-90
84. Lieut.-Colonel Sir S. HOARE

asked the Postmaster-General why the mails which arrive from America on the "Aquitania" on 10th May were not de livered in London until 14th May?

Mr. PEASE

The delay in the delivery of the mails brought by the "Aquitania" was occasioned by a sudden strike of the dock porters employed by the Great Western Railway Company at Plymouth, who refused to handle the bags. The mails were in the tender from 3 o'clock p.m. on the 10th until 3.15 p.m. on the 13th instant before they were transferred to the train for conveyance to the delivery offices.
