HC Deb 21 May 1910 vol 116 c397
Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

(by Private Notice) asked the First Lord of the Admiralty how many additional vessels have been sent to reinforce the ships of the Irish Command in searching for Mr. Hawker's machine?

Dr. MACNAMARA

One flotilla leader and eight destroyers have been sent out.

Captain W. BENN

Have any seaplanes been sent—a much more suitable way of searching?

Dr. MACNAMARA

I cannot say. I shall have to inquire.

Lieut.-Colonel W. GUINNESS

May I ask whether the responsibility for the tragedy does not really rest with those who, by organising prizes on a competitive instead of on a qualifying basis, encouraged Captain Hawker to fly in bad weather and without adequate preparation [HON. MEMBERS: "Quite right!"]——and will the right hon. Gentleman——

Mr. SPEAKER

The hon. and gallant Member can hardly expect an answer to a question like that without giving notice.
