HC Deb 21 May 1910 vol 116 cc372-3
43. Colonel THORNE

asked the Secretary of State for War whether the telegraphists attached to the 54th Divisional Signal Company have presented a petition to the Director of Army Signals drawing attention to their employment as strike breakers on civilian telegraph work; whether six telegraphists have been ordered from the demobilisation, camp, Kantara, because of the pressure of civilian work due to the strike; whether there are twenty-two sounder circuits at Tanta with four or five stations on each which are mainly used for civil traffic; and whether, as the Army telegraphists concerned have had no home leave for four years, he will order their demobilisation at once?

Captain GUEST

I have cabled to Egypt for a report regarding this question, and will let the hon. and gallant Member know as soon as a reply is received.
