HC Deb 15 March 1910 vol 15 c192
Mr. WARING

asked the Lord Advocate whether fish trawled in Scottish prohibited waters and confiscated for contravention of the Trawling (Prohibited Areas) Prevention Act are sold by the authorities, and whether the proceeds of such sales are placed to the credit of the funds at the disposal of the Scottish Fishery Board?

The LORD ADVOCATE (Mr. Ure)

I am informed that in pursuance of the Act referred to confiscated fish are sold by direction of the Commissioners of Customs, and the proceeds of sale are retained by the Commissioners in terms of the Customs Consolidation Act, 1876?

Mr. WARING

In view of the fact that the fish are trawled in Scottish waters, is it not possible to allocate the money in the manner suggested?

Mr. URE

Yes, quite possible if thought desirable.

Mr. GEORGE YOUNGER

Have there been any cases of confiscation?

Mr. URE

Yes.
