HC Deb 15 March 1910 vol 15 c196
Captain COOPER

asked whether the Department of Agriculture considers it possible to establish the manufacture of sugar from beetroot in Ireland; and whether it will take any steps to assist in the creation of such an industry?

Mr. BIRRELL

The Department made very full inquiry into this matter some years ago. They do not consider it possible under existing conditions to establish in Ireland, on a remunerative basis, the manufacture of sugar from beetroot.
