HC Deb 14 March 1910 vol 15 c19
Mr. WEDGWOOD

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty if he is aware of the dissatisfaction among the engineer officers of the Royal Navy in reference to their status; and whether their Lordships intend to grant to such engineer officers the military position and powers of control which will be actually possessed by their juniors in the engine-room now entering on sea service under the new scheme?

Mr. McKENNA

The time referred to by my hon. Friend will not arrive till 1915. The Admiralty will keep in mind the considerations referred to in his question.

Mr. WEDGWOOD

Is it not proposed to make any change in the status of the existing engineer officers in 1915?

Mr. McKENNA

I could not say in the year 1910 what may or may not be proposed to be done before 1915.

Mr. WEDGWOOD

But are the Admiralty proposing to make any change in the status of the existing lieutenants?

Mr. McKENNA

I could not make any statement on the subject at the present moment. The question is not immediately urgent, and I would ask my hon. Friend to defer any question.
