HC Deb 29 June 1910 vol 18 c922
Mr. MIDDLEMORE

asked when the battleship "Renown" last carried the ten six-inch guns with which she is credited in the Dilke Return; and whether there are any completed ships in the Return, other than British, which are credited with armaments which they have not carried for a like period?

Mr. McKENNA

The six-inch guns were removed on deposit in 1905, and could at any time be replaced on very short notice. The reply to the second part of the question is in the negative.

Mr. ASHLEY

Can the right hon. Gentleman say with whom they are deposited and when they can be redeemed?

Mr. McKENNA

I think the hon. Member has misunderstood the meaning of the word "deposit."

Mr. BURGOYNE

Is it not the fact that a large number of ships with these six-inch guns have already been sold?

Mr. McKENNA

I think the guns are ready to be replaced if required.
