HC Deb 20 June 1910 vol 18 cc12-3
Mr. BARNES (for Mr. Ramsay Macdonald)

asked what previous qualifications the officers in charge of the British section of the Brussels Exhibition have had in this kind of work; whether he has received complaints from exhibitors regarding the bad arrangement of the British section compared with that of other sections, particularly that of Germany; whether his attention has been drawn to criticisms on this subject; and whether, before finally settling the details of the exhibition which is to be held in Italy next year, he will consult some artist or architect with experience in such matters so that the British exhibitors may reap the full advantage of their outlay?

Mr. BUXTON

The Board of Trade have received no complaints from exhibitors regarding the organisation of the British section, but, on the other hand, a large number of the exhibitors have expressed their entire satisfaction with the arrangements which have been made, and their gratitude for the assistance which they have received from the Department. In my judgment, the officers in charge of the British section have thoroughly proved their competence by the way in which they have carried out their duties, and I have every hope that the arrangements made in regard to the exhibitions at Turin and Home next year will be equally satisfactory. Naturally, the advice of competent artists and architects has been, and will be, sought so far as necessary.
