HC Deb 27 July 1910 vol 19 c2095
Mr. EDMUND HARVEY

asked the President of the Board of Education whether he will consider the desirability of establishing at the Board of Education a register of trained certificated teachers who are desirous of obtaining employment, in order to save the loss of time and expense which is caused at present by the absence of any central clearing house, resulting as it does in a shortage of teachers in some parts of the country while in other parts teachers have the utmost difficulty in obtaining posts?

Mr. TREVELYAN

I am anxious to do all I can to assist teachers to find employment, but the Board, as my hon. Friend is aware, do not themselves appoint teachers, and I am doubtful whether the Board can properly undertake to exercise the functions of the various advertisement agencies in this respect. I may say, however, that the difficulty to which my hon. Friend alludes is engaging my serious attention.
