HC Deb 20 July 1910 vol 19 c1254
Mr. STAVELEY-HILL

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware that Income Tax notices are being issued in which it is stated that when the income from all sources does not exceed £2,000, and any part of that income is earned income, a claim may be made for reduction of the Income Tax on the earned income at the lower scale applicable thereto; whether £3,000 ought to be substituted for £2,000; and, if so, whether he will give instructions for the withdrawal of the misleading notices?

The CHANCELLOR of the EXCHEQUER (Mr. Lloyd George)

I may refer the hon. Member to the reply given to my hon. Friend the Member for the Mansfield Division (Notts) on the 13th instant.

Mr. STAVELEY-HILL

Can the right hon. Gentleman answer that part of the question as to whether instructions have been given, or will be given, for the withdrawal of these notices?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

That is the question that was put by the hon. Gentleman the Member for Mansfield. The answer to that explains the whole thing. It had reference to the state of things before the Finance Bill was passed.
