§ Mr. WATTasked whether the posts of auditorships of school boards in Scotland are at present in process of being filled by the Scottish Office; whether the great majority of those filled have been given to accountants who already hold auditorships under the Scottish Local Government Board and other Departments; and whether the Lord Advocate will see that the further appointments to be made shall be given to men who hold no other State auditorships?
§ The LORD ADVOCATE (Mr. Ure)After full consideration it has been decided that, in view of the close connection between the accounts of a school board and those of the corresponding parish council, the more effective as well as the more economical course was to entrust the audit of both sets of accounts as a rule to the same person, and appointments have been made accordingly.
§ Mr. WATTAre we to understand that it is the policy of the Scottish Office to pile up these appointments in the hands of a few?
