HC Deb 11 July 1910 vol 19 c32
Mr. NANNETTI

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether he is aware that the warders in Mountjoy Prison, Dublin, have not been given facilities to claim the Parliamentary franchise; whether he is aware that franchise notices, issued by the city clerk to be filled up, were left at the prison gate; was a warder who went to put his name on not allowed to do so by the man on the gate; have these notices been removed, if so, by whom; what has become of them; and whether he is aware that owing to want of facilities ninety officers of this prison have been deprived of the Parliamentary franchise for past years?

Mr. BIRRELL

I am informed by the General Prisons Board that no officer of the prison has been deprived of the franchise through lack of facilities for claiming his vote. The forms left at the prison gate lodge were retained there pending the decision of a question as to who was the proper person to fill them up. The Prisons Board have now been advised that the governor of the prison should fill them up and have issued instructions to that effect.
