HC Deb 21 April 1910 vol 16 cc2316-7
Mr. HAMILTON BENN

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether his attention has been drawn to the fact that whereas, according to the Colonial Statistical Abstract (Forty-sixth Number), p. 312, the wheat production in certain Canadian provinces is given as 126,000,000 bushels in 1908, the official Return issued by the Canadian Census of Statistics Office at Ottawa gives the wheat crop in 1908 for the whole of Canada at 112,500,000 million bushels; and whether he can explain the discrepancy?

Mr. BUXTON

My attention has already been directed to this matter. The figures given in the Colonial Statistical Abstract are supplied to the Board of Trade by the Provincial Governments, and are identical with those issued by the Department of Trade and Commerce of the Dominion Government, though differing from the figures issued by the Dominion Department of Agriculture. I am causing inquiry to be made as to the explanation of the divergence between the two sets of official Canadian figures.
