HC Deb 19 April 1910 vol 16 cc1887-8
Mr. JOHN PHILLIPS

asked whether, now that Colonel M'Cutchan, of 5, Middleton Road, Camden Road, London, is willing to sell his estate in the parish of Moydow, county Longford, he will call on the Estates Commissioners to acquire these lands in order to reinstate Joseph Coughlan, of Cloonmucker, an evicted tenant of this estate, and to enlarge the uneconomic holdings around this grazing ranch, so much needed by small tenant farmers?

Mr. BIRRELL

The untenanted lands on this estate have not been offered for sale to the Estates Commissioners. Coughlan's application for reinstatement was not lodged within the time prescribed by the Evicted Tenants Act, and cannot be dealt with under that Act.

Mr. JOHN PHILLIPS

asked if the right hon. Gentleman will call on the Estates Commissioners to acquire the lands of Middletown, in the parish of Killashee, county Longford, now for sale, in order to enlarge the uneconomic holdings in this poor district of country, and give the poor farmers a chance of living at home, instead of emigrating, as their sons have nearly all emigrated already?

Mr. BIRRELL

The Estates Commissioners are unable to identify these lands as pending for sale before them.
