HC Deb 12 April 1910 vol 16 c1074
Mr. REMNANT (for Mr. Goulding)

asked whether notices have this month been issued from the office of Surveyor of Taxes requesting the supply of copies of the accounts of the business of private firms for the year ending 31st December, 1909, for the use of the Commissioners when making the Income Tax assessments for the year ending 1910–11; whether there is any authority for issuing such requests where the copies may be open for inspection of clerks and others in the Surveyor's department; and whether the proper procedure is to ask for the production of the accounts for the inspection of the Surveyor?

Mr. LLOYD-GEORGE

I am aware that applications of the nature referred to are from time to time, in certain cases, being made by Surveyors, with the knowledge and approval of the local Commissioners of Income Tax. It is, therefore, quite probable that some such applications have been issued this month. There is no expressly authorised form of procedure for making such applications, as appears to be assumed in the latter part of the question.
