HC Deb 12 April 1910 vol 16 cc1046-7
Major ADAM

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he would state the scale of pensions received by chaplains of His Majesty's forces on retirement; whether there had been any changes in this scale since 1870; and if so, what changes had been introduced?

Mr. HALDANE

The rates of retired pay for chaplains appointed on or after the date of receipt or promulgation of the Royal Warrant of 2nd April, 1894, are as follows:—

After 20 years service ….. 10/- a day.
After 25 years Service ….. 13/- a day.
After 30 years Service ….. 17/6 a day.

The scale in force in 1870 and until 1894 was as follows:—

After 20 years service ….. 12/6 a day.
After 25 years service ….. 15/- a day.
After 30 years service ….. 17/6 a day.

Major ADAM

Would the 17s. 6d. rate apply to a chaplain retired compulsorily at the age of sixty?

Mr. HALDANE

Not necessarily. He might have entered very late in life. It is after thirty years' service the 17s. 6d. rate applies.
