HC Deb 07 April 1910 vol 16 c595
Mr. HAZLETON

asked the Chief Secretary why Parliament was asked to vote £500 a year for a private secretary to the Lord Chancellor of Ireland, in view of the fact that it was asked to vote only £300, with an allowance of £150, for a private secretary to the Lord Chancellor of England?

Mr. REDMOND BARRY

The salary of the private secretary to the Lord Chancellor of Ireland was fixed by Order dated the 22nd November, 1884, made by the Lord Chancellor of the day with the concurrence of the Treasury, pursuant to the Supreme Court of Judicature (Ireland) Act, 1877. The duties of the office are not identical with those of the private secretary to the Lord Chancellor of England and include duties which in England are discharged by other officials.
