HC Deb 07 April 1910 vol 16 cc595-6
Mr. MITCHELL

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India if, in view of the French Government's refusal to grant the most-favoured-nation treatment for petrol imported into France, the product of British India, he intended to take measures to increase the duties upon wines, silk, and silk goods imported into British India from France, and upon which the French Government asked for a reduction in order to meet the demands of the Indian Government with regard to the duty on British-Indian petrol?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for INDIA (Mr. Montagu)

No, Sir. The duties upon wines, silk and silk goods have been imposed and their amount fixed for revenue purposes only.

Mr. MITCHELL

Is the Indian Government satisfied to accept terms which are 50 per cent. inferior to those granted to Roumania?
