HC Deb 04 April 1910 vol 16 cc27-8
Viscount CASTLEREAGH

asked whether the Government have made arrangements by which the Crown and this House are to act together to restrict for ever the veto of the House of Lords; and whether he has received the necessary guarantees for the passing of the proposed Veto Bill into law?

The PRIME MINISTER

As I understand the question, it seeks to ascertain whether the Government have tendered to the Crown advice as to its possible action in certain contingencies. I do not think that that is a question that I am bound or entitled to answer.

Viscount CASTLEREAGH

Will the right hon. Gentleman say what meaning is to be attached to the words of the Home Secretary in his speech of last Thursday?

The PRIME MINISTER

The Noble Lord is quite as capable as I am of construing the words.

Viscount CASTLEREAGH

Was the Home Secretary speaking on behalf of the Government on that occasion?
