HC Deb 04 April 1910 vol 16 cc35-6
Mr. BOTTOMLEY

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware that several estates in bankruptcy, in which sums are due in respect of Income Tax and Inhabited House Duty, are being closed without any provision being made for payment of such taxes owing to the collectors not being empowered to send out the necessary demand; and whether he will cause instructions to be given to the bankruptcy department to suspend the closing of such estates until after the passing of the Budget?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

My right hon. Friend is not aware of the facts stated in the question, but my hon. Friend may rest assured that the matter to which he refers is receiving due consideration with a view to safeguarding the revenue.
