HC Deb 20 September 1909 vol 11 c23
Sir WALTER MENZIES

asked how many school inspectors there are in Scotland; how many are Scotchmen; how many have been educated in Scotland; and how many possess a Scottish university qualification?

The SOLICITOR-GENERAL for SCOTLAND (Mr. Dewar)

There are 36 inspectors of schools for Scotland, including nine junior inspectors. With but one or two exceptions, I believe, all are Scotchmen, were educated in Scotland, and hold a Scottish university qualification. To give complete and accurate information on these points, however, would necessitate the making of inquiries which may occupy some little time, and perhaps the hon. Member would be so good as to indicate a later date for the furnishing of the information; but I may suggest for his consideration that to press inquiries on this particular line may provoke reprisals.
