§ Mr. BOTTOMLEYasked whether the delay in promoting the 63 sub-engineers who passed a Civil Service examination held in January last was due to a financial difficulty; and whether the increased expenditure involved had been provided for in the Post Office Estimates for the current year?
§ Mr. BUXTONThe delay is not due to a financial difficulty. The increased expenditure has been provided for in the Estimates of the current year.
§ Mr. BYLESThe right hon. Gentleman is, no doubt, aware that this deserving class of men feel that they have a grievance, 12 which they have represented through their representatives, and will he be good enough to receive, with his usual courtesy, representations from them?
§ Mr. BUXTONI have given specific answers to specific questions, and I have already answered questions in this House, and privately, to hon. Members. I am fully aware of the case and I am expediting it as much as I can. I am in correspondence with the Treasury with reference to the matter, and perhaps the correspondence between the two Departments is sometimes not so rapid as it might be.
