SHERWELLasked the President of the Local Government Board if his attention has been called to the collapse of a disused warehouse situate between Pepper-street, Golden-place, and Orange-street, Southwark Bridge-road, resulting in serious injury to adjacent small tenements; whether the warehouse in question was the property of the Ecclesiastical Commissioners; and whether his attention has been called to the dilapidated condition of other property in the same locality belonging to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners?
§ The PRESIDENT of the LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Mr. John Burns)I am informed that the warehouse in question belonged to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners, and that the site formed part of a larger area, which is to let for rebuilding. There are some old cottages on this area, but, pending the rebuilding, it is deemed advisable to retain them in order to avoid disturbance to the tenants. I have not received any complaint as to the condition of other property in the same locality belonging to the Commissioners, and I am informed that no such complaint has been made to them.
