HC Deb 13 September 1909 vol 10 c1729
Mr. JOYNSON-HICKS (for Captain Faber)

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he would say on what date the modifications suggested by the conference of off-licence holders were communicated to him; if, amongst their recommendations, it was suggested that the saleable quantity of liquors should be reduced in England and Wales; and on what date he informed the representatives of the off-licence holders that the Government Amendment reducing the restriction would be withdrawn?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

The communications between the representatives of the off-licence trade and the permanent official responsible for the administration of the Excise licences were of an entirely private and confidential nature, and my right hon. Friend does not therefore think it would be proper for him to give the information asked for.
