HC Deb 13 September 1909 vol 10 cc1729-30
Viscount CASTLEREAGH

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether payments under the increased scale of Estate Duties proposed by the Finance Bill were being claimed upon the estates of persons who had died since 29th April, 1909, or, if not, what arrangement it was proposed to make in the cases of the estates of such persons passed for duty while the Finance Bill was under discussion; and whether he could state what number of such estates had at present come under the consideration of the Commissioners?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

In connection with deaths occurring on or after 30th April, Estate Duty is accepted only at the rates set out in the relative Budget Resolutions. As regards the second part of the question, the number of the estates of persons who have died since 29th April, 1909, is not known, but there have been 2,757 payments of Death Duties at the increased rates provided by the Resolutions.
