Sir GILBERT PARKERasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he can now say when he will be able to give an answer to the communication addressed to him by the council of the Royal Colonial Institute concerning abatements to the Income Tax being withheld from British people resident in the Colonies?
§ Mr. HOBHOUSEI have already informed the hon. Member that my right 1090 hon. Friend is considering this matter, and an answer will be sent in due course to the council of the Royal Colonial Institute.
Sir GILBERT PARKERI would ask the right hon. Gentleman if he cannot be more definite in his reply, inasmuch as this important and responsible body has been in communication on the matter since the midle of July?
§ Mr. HOBHOUSEI do not think that it is unreasonable that the matter should, require a certain amount of time between the question being put and the reply being given.
