HC Deb 02 September 1909 vol 10 c563
Colonel WILLIAMS

asked the Postmaster-General if country postmasters are sometimes obliged to ask the local banks to postpone till next day the presentation of the postal orders they have for collection, on the ground that their cash is insufficient; and, if so, if he will take steps to enable the Post Office to fulfil its obligations and to prevent loss to the banks?

Mr. BUXTON

It appears occasionally to have happened that at small offices the sub-postmasters have been obliged to ask the local banks to postpone till next day the presentation of the postal orders they have for collection, on account of insufficient cash. When any such cases are brought to light steps are taken to avoid a recurrence. If the hon. Member will give me any case he has in mind, I shall be very glad to inquire into it.
