HC Deb 02 September 1909 vol 10 cc577-8
Mr. SHEEHAN

asked the Vice-President of the Department of Agriculture (Ireland) if he can state the number of margarine factories in Ireland; whether they are receiving any technical instruction or advice from the Department; and, if not, whether the Department intends to continue to allow margarine to be exhibited at its produce shows?

The HON. MEMBER

had also given notice of the following question: To ask the Vice-President of the Department of Agriculture (Ireland) what is the present number of butter-blending factories in Ireland; whether they are receiving any technical instruction or advice from the Department; and, if not, whether the Department intends to continue to allow the produce of such factories to be exhibited at its produce exhibitions?

Mr. CHERRY

I will answer these two questions together. There are six margarine factories in Ireland. Up to 31st August 90 butter factories were notified to the Department as having been registered with local authorities. The Department have no special scheme for affording advice and instruction to these factories, but as far as practicable they afford all necessary advice and assistance when such is desired. The Department see no reason to make any change in the present arrangements.
