Mr. CONOR O'KELLY

asked the Vice-President of the Department of Agriculture (Ireland) whether his attention has been called to the fact that a Norwegian named Obsen, employed at the whaling station on Iniskea Island, in the county of Mayo, was recently admitted to the local hospital in Belmullet, and was certified by the hospital doctor to be suffering from beriberi; and, if so, is he in a position to state the causes that led to the outbreak of this disease?

Mr. REDMOND BARRY

The Department have no information on the subject.

Mr. CONOR O'KELLY

Have not resolutions been sent to the Department on the subject?

Mr. REDMOND BARRY

I dare say there may have been.

Mr. JOHN DILLON

May I ask whether the hon. and learned Gentleman will make inquiry into the matter, and also into the general feeling of the people in this district?

Mr. REDMOND BARRY

I will communicate with the Vice-President of the Department of Agriculture on the subject.
