HC Deb 04 October 1909 vol 11 c1639
Mr. WATT

asked the Secretary of State for War, whether, under Article 606 of the Royal Warrant for Pay, etc., 1900, the services of pensioned officers who were re-employed during a war were always to be considered special circumstances under that rule, empowering his Department to withhold retired pay granted to these officers on retirement?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the WAR OFFICE (Mr. F. D. Acland)

Re-employment in war is not one of the special circumstances referred to in Article 606 of the Pay Warrant of 1900 (Article 467 of the Current Warrant).

Mr. WATT

Will the hon. Member say whether there is any rule or regulation adopted by his Department in the definition of these "Special Circumstances"; for example, does one Secretary of State for War follow in the wake of his predecessor in office as regards their definition?

Mr. ACLAND

The hon. Member may rely that very great care is exercised by the Department in this matter.
