Mr. MARTHURasked whether the Home Secretary had considered the representations made to him in favour of the release of Mr. George Wise from Walton Gaol, Liverpool; and whether he had arrived at a decision in the matter?
§ Mr. GLADSTONEI hope that the Royal Assent will be given to the Police (Liverpool Inquiry) Bill on Friday next, and I shall then be able to announce the Commissioner's name; and, when he has been appointed, I shall be in a position to take such action in Mr. Wise's case as may be deemed necessary or expedient in the interests of the inquiry.
