§ Mr. HALDANEOfficers serving at home do not receive a free ration of bread and meat; abroad they are entitled to the same ration of bread and meat as the 1442 soldier, which consists, at most stations, of 1 lb. bread and 1 lb. meat; at a few tropical stations where the cattle are poor an extra ¼ lb. of meat is given.
