HC Deb 18 May 1909 vol 5 c219
Sir JOHN DEWAR

asked the Lord Advocate whether he is aware that an application for material for fencing was lodged with the Congested Districts Board from necessitous erofting townships in North Harris; whether the Congested Districts Board agreed to grant this request, and terms were arranged with the crofters to erect, and the landlord to maintain, the fence; whether the Congested Districts Board has now refused to proceed with the arrangement, which was to help materially one of the poorest and lowest-rented districts in the Highlands; and can he give the reasons for the refusal?

The LORD ADVOCATE (Mr. Ure)

It is not the case that the Congested Districts Board agreed to grant the application referred to by my hon. Friend. The request for material is still under consideration and the Congested Districts Board ire in communication with the landlord with a view to some arrangement being made.
