HC Deb 18 May 1909 vol 5 cc231-2
Mr. THOMAS F. SMYTH

asked the Secretary to the Treasury if he has received copies of resolutions passed at meetings held in October last at Keshcarrigan, county Leitrim, of ratepayers living in the guaranteeing area of the Cavan and Leitrim Light Railway Company asking for a further grant from the Treasury with a view to relieving them from paying a heavy rate towards the upkeep of this railway: and if any sum will be forthcoming from the Treasury to lighten the railway tax on those ratepayers?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

I presume that the hon. Member refers to three resolutions passed in October last, which, however, only asked, the first for an inquiry into the management of the railway, the second for a reduction in the number of directors, and the third for the appointment of a new manager. Copies of the resolutions were not sent to the Treasury, and it is not their intention to make any further contribution to the expenses of the railway company.
