HC Deb 10 May 1909 vol 4 cc1435-6
Mr. JOHN REDMOND

asked the Prime Minister whether, in view of the desire of Irish Members to raise a discussion on the administration of old age pensions in Ireland, and of the technical difficulty which has arisen of discussing this matter on the Irish Local Government Vote, he will put down the general Old Age Pension Vote as first order for Thursday next, on the understanding that only the Irish portion of the question will be discussed and that the Vote will stand over for the discussion of the British administration of old age pensions on a subsequent date?

The PATRONAGE SECRETARY of the TREASURY (Mr. Joseph Pease, for the Prime Minister)

I shall be glad to put down the Vote indicated by the hon. Member, and I trust the House will recognise that it is intended to devote Thursday to matters relating to Ireland, and that the discussion on this Vote will be confined to the Irish portion of the old age pensions. The second Vote will be class 2, Vote 34—the salary of the Vice-President of the Department of Agriculture and Technical Instruction (Ireland).
