HC Deb 04 May 1909 vol 4 c876
Mr. P. F. CURRAN

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he can now state if any, and, if so, what reforms are contemplated by His Majesty's Government in the composition of the Legislative Council of Malta?

The Under-Secretary for the COLONIES (Colonel Seely)

No, Sir; some alteration of the composition of the Executive Council has been and is under consideration, but no change in the Legislative Council of Malta is contemplated at the present time.

Mr. CURRAN

Arising out of that answer, may I ask whether the hon. Gentleman is aware that owing to the number of appointed persons always being able to out-vote the number of elected persons on the council a considerable amount of unrest has been created?

Colonel SEELY

The matter of the Executive Council is under consideration. I do not think I can usefully add anything, to the answer.
