Return ordered showing—

(1) The number of candidates previously instructed or employed in schools in Wales who entered for the preliminary certificate examination in 1907 and 1908, respectively, showing—

  1. (a) the number who were successful and the number who failed; and
  2. 712
  3. (b) the number who at that time were, or within a year previously had been, students at secondary or intermediate schools in Wales and the number who were not;

(2) The number of students who were admitted into the training colleges and the day training departments of the university colleges in Wales in the autumn of 1906, 1907, and 1908, respectively, stating the qualifying examination passed;

(3) The number of students at (1) training colleges in Wales, and (2) day training departments of university colleges in Wales, who completed their periods of training in 1906, 1907, and 1908, respectively—

  1. (a) after passing through approved university degree courses; and
  2. (b) after taking some final examination other than a university examination;
showing the number who were successful;

(4) The number of students in training colleges or day training departments of university colleges in Wales and teachers in elementary schools in Wales who entered for the final certificate examination of the Board of Education in 1906, 1907, 1908, respectively, showing—

  1. (a) the number who were successful and the number who failed; and also
  2. (b) the number who were students at Welsh training colleges or the day training departments of the Welsh university colleges, and the number who were not.—[Sir Alfred Thomas.]
